‘Variety’ to Nix Daily Print Publication After 80 Years:


Big changes at Variety: The 108-year-old entertainment trade magazine announced Tuesday that it will no longer publish a daily print edition as if it shifts more resources to digital. Variety will continue to publish its weekly magazine, to be released on Tuesdays, and expand its "special edition" print packages for awards season and other topical items.
Beyond the print changes, Variety.com will also debut a new, paywall-free website on March 1, opening up access to all visitors for free. Jay Penske, chairman and CEO of Variety parent company Penske Media Corporation, called the decision to remove the paywall "the end of an error."
